"title": "Escape From Damnation II: The Cavern",
"description": "This WAD contains a single map (MAP02) designed for DOOM II, serving as a sequel to Escape From Damnation I. The level features a cavern-themed environment with lava rivers and dim lighting, emphasizing a hellish underground atmosphere. Combat involves classic monsters like imps and barons, with a moderate difficulty leaning on shotgun and plasma gun encounters. Resources appear balanced, with some tension on ammo supply hinted in the description. The map is linear with cooperative and deathmatch support, built from scratch without new graphics or sounds, compatible with vanilla DOOM II. The design focuses on exploration within a confined cavern setting and straightforward progression.",

Crossing your fingers and trying not to think\nabout your shrinking supply of shotgun shells, you jump down into the pit,\nhoping for a soft landing.\n\n You didn't get it.\n\n After what seemed like ages, you claw your way back to consciousness,\nand open your eyes. There isn't much to see except for the faint flickering\nlight from above, and the feeble light from two small candles in front of\nyou. Stepping closer, your eyes become more used to the diminished light,\nand you see a vast cavern in front of and below you, dimly illuminated by the\nriver of molten lava that divides the cavern floor. No sooner do you\ngracefully drop to the floor below than you hear the bone-chilling hiss of\nimps. Grabbing your double-barreled, you step out to see several lobbing\nfireballs from nearby pillars. Your shotgun begins singing a familiar tune,\nand your peripheral vision falls upon a shiny plasma gun on top of one of the\npillars. As you wonder how you're going to reach it, a fireball nearly\ncauses male pattern baldness. You're startled; you were quite certain you'd\nkilled all the imps! You look up to see more fireballs coming at you from\nfar across the cavern, out of shotgun range.\n\n As you easily sidestep the incoming projectiles, you hear a demon\ngrowl in the darkness; uncomfortably close to your ear! You dash backwards,\nslamming two shells into your double-barreled shotgun, thinking that the imps\nacross the way can wait...\n\nAuthor's comments, semi-spoiler free:\n=====================================\n\n1. Fear not, sports fans, the plasma rifle and rocket launcher await\n you. The BFG is prepared for those who DeathMatch.\n\n2. To exit in Cooperative and DeathMatch modes, have one person wait in the\n exit room, and have another press the blue switch in the lava room. This\n switch reveals the multiplayer exit.\n\n3. This level is meant to be played immediately after Escape From Damnation\n I: The Prison. Starting out with a pistol, it can be rough. :)\n\n C.C. 4/9/96 11:54 p.m."
