Having passed through DANTE'S GATE and\n\t\t\t survived, you now find yourself in a keep on the\n\t\t\t shores of the river Acheron. This is the second\n\t\t\t leg of the journey in your search for Beatrice.\n\t\t\t Your guide, Virgil, is nowhere to be found.\n\t\t\t \"He's buggered off!\" you think to yourself; but\n\t\t\t you have no time now to even think: you are\n\t\t\t immediately challenged by several Demons, and in\n\t\t\t the distance you hear the eerie purring of the\n\t\t\t Arch-Vile. (Just be sure not to stare at him for\n\t\t\t too long before you start running.) As usual,\n\t\t\t you dispatch what fiends you may and begin the\n\t\t\t task at hand.\n\n\t\t\t Your goal? To get the hell out of this place as\n\t\t\t quickly as possible and find your beloved Beatrice.\n\t\t\t You only hope that she has already passed through\n\t\t\t this hell-hole to a safer haven beyond. If only\n\t\t\t you could hold her in your arms again, you know\n\t\t\t what you would say:\n\n\t\t\t \"Give me some sugar, Babe.\"\n\n\t\t\t CROSSING ACHERON (pronounced 'ak eron) is the second\n\t\t\t level in a series that began with DANTE'S GATE. The\n\t\t\t third is VIRGIL'S LEAD. For any of the two or three\n\t\t\t of you out there who have read Dante Alighieri's\n\t\t\t THE DIVINE COMEDY -- or even only \"Inferno\" --\n\t\t\t I'm sure you've been able to appreciate the many\n\t\t\t allusions to this work in DOOM. I have tried to\n\t\t\t take a tack of my own along the same lines. (I do\n\t\t\t this not only because I think the idea is neat, but\n\t\t\t so that people will think that I'm very clever.)\n\t\t\t I'm not so na‹ve as to expect everyone to rush out\n\t\t\t and get a copy of \"Inferno\" (I mean, it IS pretty\n\t\t\t tedious stuff, at times), but it's well worth the\n\t\t\t read -- and a little patience is a virtue that is\n\t\t\t often well-rewarded.\n\n\t\t\t (By the way: Acheron is a river in Hell (basically).\n\t\t\t But don't look for any rivers in here: I tried it\n\t\t\t several different ways and just wasn't convinced.)\n\n\t\t\t Thanks. Hope you like it.\n\nInstructions\t\t: Put ACHERON2.WAD in your DOOM directory, type\n\t\t\t \"doom2 -file acheron2.wad -warp 3 -skill <#>\"\n\t\t\t (Or, to play moderately at first, also put the file\n\t\t\t ACHE2.BAT in your DOOM directory and type ACHE2.)\n \t\t\t To play the DEMO, just type DOOM2 -file acheron2.wad,\n\t\t\t sit back, and enjoy the show.\n\nDisclaimer\t\t: I assume no responsibility for anything of any sort\n\t\t\t in any way, shape, or form--now, then, henceforeward\n\t\t\t in this life (or the next several) for any screw-ups\n\t\t\t or even minor inconveniences this PWAD causes you,\n\t\t\t your family, your relatives, friends, ancestors,\n\t\t\t associates, employers, pets, neighbors, lovers,\n\t\t\t congressional representatives, nor any other person--\n\t\t\t living, dead, or undead -- that you have or will ever\n\t\t\t have any contact with in even the slightest form.\n\t\t\t This PWAD has been tested and tested ad infinitum, so\n\t\t\t it shouldn't mess with your computer or anything else\n\t\t\t remotely associated with it. Combat mixes steady hitscanner pressure (lots of shotgunners/chaingunners) with mid-tier threats and a single arch-vile to keep you moving. For UV, it plays as a moderate, monster-dense map with strong weapon availability (SSG/rockets/plasma) and plenty of health/armor to recover from mistakes. Progression revolves around red and yellow skull keys with some teleport-driven navigation rather than one straight corridor run.",
